My secret headshot formula

I spoke with a client this morning who wanted to know why my headshots were flawless? After I thanked her profusely for her kindness I let her in on a few secrets. I thought I would share them with you.

  1. We produce an image with your end point in mind. I have everyone tell me who the photos are intended for? If you’re like Cindy below who is a community builder in the Arts Community and a home stager with the best and bubbliest personality a white washed headshot doesn’t really match.

That means I know things like – everyone has one eye bigger than the other and there is a trick to balance that, leaning away from my camera (everyone naturally does that) means you’ll have a bad bad bad image, and lastly a wonderful image is created by liking your subject and I like people. A lot. I’m fascinated by the human experience so I pay attention and make people feel comfortable even for a second and then I take that photo.

3. Make up and clothes are important – and I work with the best in the business to teach people how to achieve an image that matches what they want to communicate. The make up artist I love working with, Shira Ben, has studied what makes a beautiful portrait – she takes into account the laws of attraction, basic things like her understanding of how colours work together and lastly she uses make up that translate well on camera.

If you’d like to join me in the studio please get in touch. I’d love to work with you.
